The New God
Director: Yutaka Tsuchiya
1999 99 min.

Karin Amamiya has become a counter-culture icon in Japan, but she started out as the lead singer of the ultra-right wing punk band The Revolutionary Truth. With guitarist Hidehito Ito at her side Amamiya howls out nationalistic and vehemently anti-American lyrics… but is this how she really feels? Put in front of the lens of documentary filmmaker Yutaka Tsuchiya’s camera Amamiya’s right wing pose begins to crumble, driving a wedge between Ito and the rest of the band and leading her to all new conclusions about Japan’s place in the world and her place in Japan. MORE about the film and Dir. Tsuchiya
