Mohammad, an 8-year-old blind boy with a gentle heart, communicates with nature through touch and hearing.\u00a0 When his boarding school for blind children in Tehran closes for summer, he comes home happily to his loving grandmother and beautiful sisters who live in the vibrant nature of Iran\u2019s countryside. But, Mohammad\u2019s father appears to see him as a burden and sends him away to live with a blind carpenter\u2026. This moving tale is a gift from an Oscar nominated director Majid Majidi (\u201cChildren of Heaven\u201d) packed with cinematic miracles. Majid Majidi<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Majid Majidi was born in Teheran in 1959 from an Iranian middle class family. After the Islamic revolution in 1978, his interest in cinema brought him to act in various films, notably “Boycott” <\/a>(1985) from Mohsen Makhmalbaf. His debut as a director and screenwriter is marked by “Baduk” <\/a>(1992), his first feature film that was presented at the Directors Fortnight in Cannes. “Children of Heaven<\/a>” (1997) won the “Best Picture” at Montreal International Film Festival and was nominated for Best Foreign Film Academy Award. “The Color of Paradise”<\/a> (1999) has also won the “Best Picture” award at\u00a0Montreal International Film Festival.<\/a> This film has been selected as one of the best 10 films of year 2000 by Time Magazine and the Critics Picks of the New-York Times. “Baran”<\/a> has won several major awards worldwide, notably the “Best Picture” award at the 25th Montreal World Film Festival and nominated for the\u00a0European Film Academy Award.<\/a> In 2001, during the Afghanistan war, he produced\u00a0Barefoot to Herat<\/a> , an emotional documentary on Afghanistan’s refugee camps, that won the\u00a0Fipresci Award at Thessaloniki Festival<\/a>. In 2005, he directed “The Willow Tree<\/a>” that won four awards at the 2005 Fajr Festival in Tehran.
\nMajjid Majid has received the\u00a0Douglas Sirk Award in 2001<\/a>, and the\u00a0Amici Vittorio de Sica Award in 2003.<\/a><\/p>\n

Long road to realize a screening of \u201cThe Colour of Paradise\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

UPAF really wanted to screen this film at this year\u2019s event, but we soon learned that the screening rights in Japan that a Japanese distributor had bought has been expired and we need to get in touch with the production company\/director or possibly some big distributor who owns rights in Japan. We spent 3 months contacting various distributors, film festivals, and our close friends in Middle East and Europe in order to find information about this film and its creator. Finally in the end of June, we obtained an email address of Mr. Majidi. To our amazement, he wrote us back via Mr. Reza Tasshokori, his right hand man for international sales and exhibits.<\/p>\n
