Nosotras Ellas

Argentina, documentary, 65min, 2015. (English title: Us Women. Them Women) Dir: Julia Pesce. Western Japan Premiere!

Distributor1_NOSOTRAS-ELLAS-01A family of nine women of various ages, all living under the same roof. As one of the elders comes to the end of her days, a young body gives birth to new life. Life is transferred as if each is a part of all the others: the intimate and sensuous world of women. Special Prize at Yamagata Int’l Documentary Film Festival 2015.

Nosotras-EllasDirector’s statement: “I recently read a quote that stuck with me. ‘We find the documentary approach interesting because it restores our relationship with the world, with history, and with the present.’ Thinking about my connection to the world means, among other things, looking inside myself and inevitably looking at my nucleus and my family history. I observed the bonds between the nine women in my family who belong to different generations: we share a very strong bond of confidence and intimacy, it’s something that ties us together and that many people might find unusual. It’s a connection no one else has access to.”

Notes for young viewers:  There is no violence. There are many nudity scenes showing women’s full and half naked body. A detailed child birth sequence. If those are fine and children can read English subtitle, the film should be fine for all ages. Little children may actually enjoy the intimacy on the screen.
