The first feature film by American-raised Taiwanese filmmaker Arvin Chen.

Kai, a lovesick young man, wants to leave Taipei in hopes of getting to Paris to be with his girlfriend. He spends long nights in a bookstore studying French, where Susie, a girl who works there, begins to take an interest in him. After one extraordinary night, Kai discovers that the excitement and romance he was longing for are already right there in Taipei.

Winner of the NETPAC Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival 2010. Chen won the 2007 Silver Bear in Berlin’s International Short Film Competition with his first short film “Mei” and was discovered by Wim Wenders (Paris, Texas, Buena Vista Social Club). It is a romantic comedy that casts a gentle cinematic light on the little people in a big city, reminiscent of the 80s indie film classics of Jim Jarmusch, and of course, Wim Wenders. The film shows Taipei that you’ve never seen before. Berlin International Film Festival NETPAC (Best Asian Film) Prize.

Dir. Arvin Chen

Chen was discovered by Wenders when his first short film “Mei” won the Silver Bear Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. Chen decided to take the filmmaking path after watching “Yi Yi” by Edward Yang and later apprenticed under him. The main character Susie is played by Amber Kuo, a national idol star in Taiwan.
